The Raspberry harvest period has begun!

The raspberry harvest season in Chile, spanning from December to April, signifies a crucial phase for the industry. In Chile, the predominant variety, Heritage, accounts for 80%, followed by Meeker at 8%, complemented by other varieties like Chilliwack, Dolomia, Amity, Santas, and Regina.

The raspberry market in Chile boasts over 9,000 producers involved in this endeavor, with more than 80 cold storage rooms exclusively dedicated to freezing raspberries. The Heritage variety takes precedence due to its esteemed flavor and shape.

Notably, the cultivated area in Chile spans approximately 5,000 hectares and is undergoing continual expansion. The cultivation of raspberries isn’t confined to a specific region; rather, it extends from La Serena to Aysén, covering vast geographic terrain that underscores the crop’s adaptability to diverse climates and territories.

The process of harvesting raspberries in Chile involves several stages and meticulous care to ensure the final product’s quality. This includes land preparation, planting, ongoing land care and maintenance, fruit flowering, and, crucially, meticulous harvesting to uphold product standards.

At Bayas del Sur, we closely monitor and collaborate with both conventional and organic raspberry producers to ensure our products maintain exceptional quality. We request detailed pesticide traceability from our network of conventional raspberry suppliers, encompassing each application’s chemical concentration and dates. For our organic raspberry suppliers, we enforce a “0 Tolerance” policy toward pesticide traces.
